I am not divorced. Yet.

But then again, the idea of playing trumpet before noon is anathema to me.

This was taken from an essay written by Lindy West, in her latest book The Witches Are Coming .

Russian r omantic (and capital “ R”   Romantic) trumpet playing is some of the best. They really know how to put their heart out on their sleeve.

Now fast forwarding, I see that Russian  pseudo romantic pop classical music can be some of the worst.

My wife walked down the aisle to the sound of a live trumpet fanfare (beca u se we both thought it’d be funny) , so she’d have no call to complain.

OTOH we’re both of Scots origin, so our national instrument was originally intended to terrify the Sassenachs in open country at a range of 20 miles - an acoustic demo lition device fits right in to that ethos.

Back in the Renaissance, the oboe was a military instrument, used to terrify the enemy. Some things never change.

I used to play for weddings all the time. I haven’t done one in three years and haven’t missed it.

When she wakes up you better be ready to get out of the house.

On your straight-piped Harley.

In addition to my own trumpet, we also have another trumpet, a euphonium/trombone, and a bass clarinet. It sounds like a conservatory around here sometimes.

That’s because you and yours can play. We, on the other hand, sound like a drunken, tone deaf folk punk trio being  electrocuted.

I’ve played in some orchestras that sounded like that....

My kids, when they were young, bought their recorders home from school, but they rarely tried to play actual music with them. They usually just took off the head joint and blew through it as loud as they could.

I once imagined how much it might cost me to get the Sydney Symphony Orchestra to play a 'greatest hits' concert absolutely stoned off their individual trolleys....

I actually got it from another married trumpet player.

I shared it, but she hasn’t read it yet. She is WFH and heavy into it, so if I send things during the day she often doesn’t read them. I’ll remind her, though.
